463 “The ABCD Team – Reducing Patient Harm: Non-Technical Skills-Based Education”

Abstract Background Although health-care workers are trained to provide basic, intermediate, or advanced life support from a technical perspective, working as team is more complex process in acute situations. Responding the emergency buzzer ward staff, and before medical arrival, could be sometimes chaotic. This may result deficient initial management missing basic measures. Context The “ABC Team” project, aimed enhance health care providers' skills dealing with situations, within surgical ward, an organized manner. Innovation Guidance for staff was created identify exact job every provider shift by assigning one job/person. Over period of 5 months, individual training given staff. Roles assigned handover A, B, C, D cards (to attached ID) were printed information needed quick response. Simulation sessions launching project. Implications Streamline patient significantly improved ABCD assessment time broken down half. Pre post project surveys showed approximately 80% now satisfied, confident clear their role event.
